OBJECTIVES


  • To study and propagate the theory of probability and related matters
  • To foster research in probability theory and related topics to encourage their applications through publications of journal monographs etc.
  • To organize annual conferences in different parts of the country.
  • To establish ISPS as a professional body liasioning with administrators in government and other organizations in statistical matters and to act as a mouth-piece of statistical research community.
  • To make ISPS as the most competent Professional body to cater the requirements of Statistics Professionals.

 Academic promotion programmes through ISPS Growth
  • “Prof. P.V. Sukathme Memorial Lecture” programs are organized every year with an interest accrued on a corpus fund of Rs 30,000/- initiated by Dr. P.V. Sukathme, former Chief Statistician, FAO.
  • “Prof. Y.C. Narasimhulu Memorial Endowment Lecture” is delivered by a reputed statistician during the yearly ISPS conference with a corpus amount of Rs. 75,000/- initiated by the Dept. of Statistics, Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati These lectures are the regular prime attraction of the yearly ISPS Conferences.
  • ISPS, GBM meet in 2010 in Visakhapatnam approved the establishment of ISPS Young Statistician Award for the best Research paper of the year under 35 year age group.
  • M.N Gopalan cash award is initiated to the young statistician Awardee by Prof. M.N. Gopalan, the founder secretary of ISPS.

 Funds & Membership Fees
  • The ISPS financial position continues to be strong. The audited results for 31st March, 2009 show Rs 4, 25,744/- as assets. A good number of Life members ( more than 100) have enrolled during 2008-09.

 GBM & EC Meeting
  • Resolved to organize Annual Workshop of ISPS for Research Scholars only on Specific focus themes.
  • Resolved to increase the executive member number from 6 to 8. Five posts to be filled by elections and 3 posts to be filled by the nomination of new EC.

 Road Map for ISPS in the Next Decade

ISPS wishes to

  • Publish its journal regularly with a tie up with a standard publisher
  • Conduct membership drives every year to enroll young statisticians into the society by fixing targets to every executive member and senior members.
  • Start chapters in each Indian University having Statistics department to promote its activities.
  • Recognize more senior statisticians who have done significant work for the development of the society and statistics in India as fellow of ISPS every year.
  • Form a screening committee with five members with 3 years duration is to be constituted to identify ISPS fellow of the year.
  • Have an attractive and effective web site with domain name ISPS.
  • Bring out e-news bulletin in every month with news and events.
  • Impress upon UGC or AICTE to start a PG diploma course in Statistics / PG diploma in Six Sigma and Lean thinking under correspondence programme.
  • Conduct short term summer / winter schools for young students in collaboration with DST, UGC, AICTE, etc and Universities.
  • Own permanent office building for which funds can be raised through donations and accepting consultancy for major surveys and research projects from various funding agencies and Industries.
